Strength and Regrowth of Hamstring Tendons After Hamstring Autograft Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

چکیده
Much controversy exists regarding the potential advantages and disadvantages of various graft choices for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Advocates of hamstring autografts often cite the limited apparent morbidity associated with semitendinosus or semitendinosus and gracilis harvest, including evidence that hamstring tendons may regenerate after harvest. In this article, we attempt to summarize the functional, radiographic, and histologic studies to date that examine hamstring regeneration. Ultimately, it appears that tendon-like tissue regenerates in the vast majority of patients, but the anatomic location and biomechanical quality of the neotendon may be inferior. Regardless, functional deficits after hamstring harvest appear to be minimal in most individuals.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction with Hamstring Tendons Has no Deleterious Effect on Hip Extension Strength
Background: Hamstring tendons are secondary hip extensors. Their harvest for graft in anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) reconstruction may create deleterious effect on hip extension strength. This is of particular importance in sportsthat need powerful hip extension force like climbing and sprinting. Due to scarcity of a comprehensive study in thisarea, we designed this prospect...
متن کاملHamstring Graft Preparation Techniques for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is one of the most commonly performed procedures in orthopaedics, with more than 125,000 performed in the United States per year. There are several reconstruction graft choices that can be used to reconstruct the native anterior cruciate ligament, with autograft hamstring tendons being one of the most commonly used. Preparation of a hamstring autograft ...
متن کاملArthroscopic reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament. A comparison of patellar tendon autograft and four-strand hamstring tendon autograft.
We compared the outcome of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using hamstring tendon autograft with outcome using patellar tendon autograft at 2 years after surgery. Patients had an isolated anterior cruciate ligament injury and, apart from the grafts, the arthroscopic surgical technique was identical. Prospective assessment was performed on 90 patients with isolated anterior cruciate li...
متن کاملSemitendinosus Tendon for ACL Reconstruction: Regrowth and Mechanical Property Recovery
BACKGROUND Semitendinosus/gracilis (STG) tendon autograft has been used effectively for restoring knee stability after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture. Though ACL reconstruction with STG autograft is an effective surgical technique for return to sports, short-term hamstring strength asymmetries exist after surgery. Although imaging evidence has demonstrated regrowth and reorganization ...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Clinical Outcomes and Second-Look Arthroscopic Findings between Remnant-Preserving Tibialis Tendon Allograft and Hamstring Tendon Autograft in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: Matched-Pair Design
Background This study aimed to compare stability, functional outcome, and second-look arthroscopic findings after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction between remnant-preserving tibialis tendon allograft and remnant-sacrificing hamstring tendon autograft. Methods We matched two groups (remnant-preserving tibialis tendon allograft group and hamstring tendon autograft group) in terms of de...
